The women team of South Africa are looking forward to end the t20 series with a victory in the last match against the West Indies in Cape Town on Wednesday. The visitors levelled the series one-all when they beat the hosts by 45 runs in the second T20 in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Coach, Hilton Moreeng wants to see a stronger performance from his team, with a particular focus on the batting unit. South Africa were restricted to 98 in 18.4 overs during the lost match, with none of the batters making more than Marizanne Kapp’s 17 off 15 deliveries.
“What I want to see from us is an overall improvement in executing our skills, especially our batting,” he said. “We let ourselves down with the bat, especially in the way that we approached the total. We need to give 200% in our performance tomorrow, it is the series decider and we need to win so we can take that momentum into the World T20.”
South Africa vs West Indies Match Prediction
South Africa will win the toss and choose to bat first but West Indies will win the match. Moreeng believes that consistency in all three cricket disciplines is going to be key if the team want to do well in the upcoming ICC Women’s World T20 happening in India later this month.
“We need to take each game one at a time when we reach India. Consistently doing the simple things right and executing our disciplines well will produce the results we are looking for. If all our departments fire the way that we know they can, there will be no stopping us,” he continued.
It’s not all doom and gloom. Moreeng is convinced that his side is capable of winning the series on Wednesday. He has taken a lot of confidence from past performances from players such as Shabnim Ismail, Kapp, Dané van Niekerk and skipper, Mignon du Preez over the course of the West Indies tour to South Africa as well as the recent England tour.
“I think overall, we have a very balanced side. Anyone in the team has the ability to turn a game on its head on their day. The way our bowling department have performed has been a pleasure to watch, the key will be the batters getting in and doing what we all know they are capable of. It’s do or die time now. We have an extremely talented team and the series is more than possible to win,” Moreeng concluded. The women’s series decider will start at 12:45 at PPC Newlands and will be broadcast live on SuperSport 2.
